The sweetest, nicest guy to put up with me and Randy Fields almost every Saturday afternoon during the years at Hawthorne......usually basketball or some other sports. Loss touch with him in High School and was very saddened to hear of his passing at such a young age. What a great loss and I know what a great person he would have been in later life.

Deeply sorry to learn of David's passing. Hard to say anything meaningful at a time like this. Must learn to appreaciate our friends when we  are with them.

Sweet David gone so young.  I couldn't comprehend it. One of those painful occurences that pull you out of childhood and grow you up real fast. He was such a sweet soul.

David Weil left us in August of 1974. David, Stuart Sackley (BHHS '67) and I had been the closest of friends prior and during Hawthorne School days, when we all lived in houses on or near the corner of Sierra Drive and Elevado and were widely known throughout the neighborhood as, "The Three Musketeers" owing to our sometimes "zany" antics. We remained good friends, but moved in different circles during high school years. David was universally well liked, a natural athlete and very popular with the ladies! He was a BHHS fixture during those years, with his movie-star good looks and his silver Pontiac GTO. I could not even begin to list his many good friends during that time, (some of whom have already commented on this webpage), but I know he hung out alot with Randy Fields. I remember attending a Rolling Stones concert at the Hollywood Bowl around 1966 with David and Randy and... ??? The screaming was so loud you could hardly hear anything else!    I was honored that David chose me to be Best Man at his wedding, (they met at college in Utah, about '69 or '70??)  and he was likewise at Joan and my wedding in 1971. Sadly, David's marriage did not work out. He visited Joan and I in Berkeley shortly after the break-up and was quite despondent. He had returned to Utah, (were he was finishing up some college classes), when he apparently keeled over from a brain aneurysm while changing a tire on his car. I've visited his grave on several occasions over the years, and never fail to be reduced to tears.

I remember David's death 40+ years ago.  Being one of the bunch from Hawthorne and BHHS who lived within a block of David.  Yes, I remember being scolded regularly for not being home for dinner as we hung out at different locations.  Anyone remember the baseball games on the vacant lot on the NE corner of Sunset & Foothill?  OR, the football games on the park running along Santa Monica Blvd around Sierra?  Who would every let their child play on that park now?

Reading the stories from everyone brings back many memories.  If nothing else, the activation of the website and hearing the stories is worth it .....

The actual Reunion? .... A Bonus!

See y'all Saturday
