Leonie was a sweet girl.  She seemed shy but deep, thoughtful and very  attentive to whatever was going on.  When she came to our first reunion, she told me that she had been diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor and would probably never make it to another reunion.  I remember standing there, talking with her and several other girlfriends, and as she told us her news, we were all transfixed to the spot.  She told us she had a job selling flooring and carpets and that it was easy work, that she was comfortable with how things were working out, and that she had come to terms with her diagnosis.  I doubt I could ever be as composed as she was, talking about such difficult events and a future cut very short by cancer.  I was proud of her then and I'm proud of her now.  I think of you, Leonie, and I remember what a very lovely young woman you were.  I'm sorry you are gone.
