Ralph and I took driver's training with Mr. Dodge there was this one girl who would crash into garbage cans.  Mr. Dodge would often have to apply the brakes. Ralph and I would sit there huddled together in the back seat with our eyes closed giggling. I'm sorry we did not get to know each other better.

He brought a lot of excitement to Beverly fans for four amazing years. One of the most talented athletes ever at Beverly. Beyond all of his athletic talent, he was a genuinely kind and caring person. A real loss.

The day I tried out for Pony League Baseball...A kid that none of us from Hawthorne really knew brcaused he had attended the Catholic school name Ralph Punaro was the first kid up to try out...He took 3 fly balls from the outfield and threw perfect strikes to home plate ...then several ground balls at shortstop...effortlessly I might add...Then went up to the plate and hit a few lazer missels over the fence..I remember Bob Gray...one of the evaluating coaches... throwing his clip board in the air and saying"The rest of you can go home"...It was like Abner Doubleday had Ralph in mind when he invented the game...I later got to play football with Ralph and watch him play basketball(I wasn't good enough to play on that team)...I got to know Ralph a lot better when we worked on the 40th reunion...Much like Tim Harris...while working on the upcomming reunion I see an empty chair at the table where Ralph should be...When Ralph left this planet...I emailed Irv Zackheim and said...The world lost one of the great ones..Truly one of the only guys I've ever known...who everybody liked

I grew up with Ralph on the playground at Beverly Vista. I have known Ralph since we were both 5 years old. His family lived on Maple and we lived on Rexford growing up. We always were on other teams growing up, so I always knew Ralph as a tough competitor and we always loved that type of comeptetion against each other. By the time we got to high school we were now teammates. The first team we played on was C Basketball team and we went undeafeated, we also played JV baseball together and we did well there too. We were brought up to Varsity in our Sophmore year in both basketball and baseball. Ralph and I were known as the duynamic duo sionce we were both small and played so well together. We were able to utilize each of our strengths to make us both better by being part of a team environment. Ralph turned into my best friend even after Beverly as we ended up at LACC for a couple years together before he went to UCLA and I went to CSUN (SFVSC). Once again we were playing against each other and by that time it felt strange. I loved everything about Raplh with his great temperament, sense of humor, and being a a life long friend. I miss being around Ralph, but also love the fact that we were best friends for over 60 years. A lot of great memories to hold onto. I miss this guy more than words can express.
