Neil died in 2015, leaving behind his wife, two children, and a community for which he had served as both primary care and emergency physician.  In high school and college Neil was one of my best friends, and I'm a better person for having known him.

Neil was one of my best friends, a partner in crime and lover of classical music, the Association, Charles Aznavour and other groups we enjoyed seeing together. I relied on him to help me get through the torturous AP French classes with Mme. Laidig. He had great wit, great perception and tremendous loyalty.  All those allowed into his inner circle, as he was a very private and shy person, knew him to be an extraordinary individual always ready to help a friend, raise someone's spirits or provide a biting, yet inciteful retort.  My husband Avery and I went to visit him and Susan in Tennessee a number of years ago and he seemed very happy, although perpetually plagued with his back problems. I have missed him all these years very much and was very sorry to hear of his passing last year.  My condolences to his family.

I heard only recently about Neil's passing and was very sad about that.  It's been a long time since I've seen him, but he was a friend in high school and lived across the street from me.  In our senior year we drove north to look at colleges, visiting Santa Cruz, Stanford, Berkeley, and Jeff Seltzer was with us.  I ended up at UC Berkeley and ran into Neil there some years later, when he was starting a Master's degree.
