Hay
I once met a wise old holy man on the side of the road who told me.." We are only put on this planet temporarily...Why do we all try and live it so damn permentaly"??? Death...much like life is no easier when you know what the outcome is before you started...I spoke at length with Michael Wellman last week...I had asked Linda for his number months ago but then my own life transformation took precedent. and I hadn't gotten around to it...we spoke for the better part of an hour and I must say...both felt quite a relief afterward...I think I met Corey in the 6th or 7th grade at some dance at the Y.M.C.A...Corey loved to dance...always a smile and a joke...a pleasure to be with... a perpetual cheer leader...who loved ice cream...later frozen yogurt...Even though Mike was a year behind us...she started dating Michael in high school..he had gotten drunk at some party over Christmas vacation and was dancing in the middle of the room with a bottle in his hand by himself...she couldn't get over that...Next time I saw her was at the 10 year reunion when they had already been married for years...When I graduated Beverly...never being much of a student...I went to L.A.Valley community college to avoid the draft...I joined what I always refered to as the "Original Animal House Fraternity" and never did find out where the classrooms were...We used to go to the race track at Hollywood Park everyday...Most of those days I ran into Michael Wellman there..

Corey & Mike shared a love for thoroughbred horses and found a way to make a more than decent living at it...raised a great family who shared the same love all the way to owning a horse that won a leg of the triple crown many years later...Yes we all knew that she was afflicted with a most treachorus disease that takes a person's mind and makes life more difficult to those who love and live around them,..a less than fitting way to check out of this game we play... called life..

But that same wise holy man told me that life was for the living...and again twice in the same week...life deals us that proverbial hand ...the inside strait..that's always one card away from Valhalla..never to be won..Like most of us...I'll miss Corey...I have nothing but strength that I can send to Michael and his children...but I sensed from our conversation that he had been preparing for this eventuality and would make sure that he and his family would band together and find ways to get through this..

And once again we stand here...not wondering how...but basically why?? Be good to yourselves...and those you love around you....and try and remember my motto "It's not enough to only be good...When you dream of being great" Good times and good friends...at a certain point in life...that's all we've got...and once again..."They're breaking up that old gang of mine"

Gotta Dance
Joe

OUR CLASSMATE NEEDS YOUR HELP

I received an email from Georgann Carman a fellow classmate of ours who is in need of a kidney.  I'm reaching out to our class to ask for your support and help for Georgann.

Email from Georgann:

Here is a short summary of how I got here:

In or around 2016, I developed a rare disease called amyloidosis.  This condition allows certain proteins to attack various organs in a body.  In my case, the amyloid went for my kidneys.

I started treatment at City of Hope where I have been receiving chemotherapy.  I will probably have to have it forever!  Meanwhile, I lost kidney function and had to start dialysis almost

two years ago.  Dialysis is awful, let me tell you!  I need it three times a week for four hours a pop.  I can only stop dialysis if I get a working kidney.  The best kidney is from a healthy

person, the more youthful the better!  Most kidneys come from deceased people.  In California, it takes about ten years on a wait list for a deceased donor, unless the putative donee gets

a kidney from a live donor.  As you probably know, most people die before getting any kidney.  Age is not in my favor!  States with smaller populations have five or six year waits.

So, I'm not normally one to promote myself, but in this case, I must.

I'm hoping that a former classmate or someone from BHHS would be willing to donate a kidney, so I'd like to get this request out to as many people as possible.   It's not the easiest thing

to ask someone to do, as you can imagine.  Even more difficult to donate!  It doesn't have to be the same blood type, a donated kidney from a live person will go into a pool and then,

theoretically, I would get the next kidney that matches me.  Expenses of the living donor are reimbursed.

There are some organizations to contact for those who may wish to donate:

Hello Fellow Normans,

I've been converting my dad's 8mm film and came across graduation days for Beverly Vista and Beverly High. Thought you might like to see them. Enjoy!

Take care,
